a tavola, bondi beach

I haven’t done the research on this but I think that Bondi has the highest density of kale consumption in all of Australia outside of say, Byron Bay. There’s something about entering the postcode that makes one feel obliged to live that little bit fitter, healthier and sun kist.

A reward was required for the soft sand runners of Bondi and it has been delivered via the carb loading goodness that is A Tavola. The gorgeous rose gold globes have been replicated in a sunny seaside locale in a suburb more common for fans of juice bars and sushi.

Already a big fan of their Darlinghurst restaurant this new outpost is part of new developments on Hall Street (with Harris Farm and Messina next door).

We’ve arrived in the afternoon when the restaurant is quiet but the pasta makers are busy prepping for the evening meal. I’ve made pasta loads of time but it’s great to see some experts at work for handy tips and tricks.

For starters we are trying the scientific genius that are the Olive all `Ascolana. These are olives stuffed with pork mince, crumbed and fried and the only thing I know for sure is that they are delicious and would be impossible for me to replicate at home. Yum.

Since we’re surfside we’ve also opted for a dish of Chargrilled Prawns with Eggplant which are seriously spectacular. Gorgeously sweet, perfectly charred and with heads on mean they are flavoursome and fragrant as they come to the table. Quite perfect.

The waiter has done a tremendous job convincing me that the special of Mezzaluna of Peas, Broad Bean & Ricotta will meet my needs and the Sous Chef has predictably selected the Ragu.

They are both gorgeous, silky and everything you’re looking for in the perfect serve of pasta.

Book a table. Reward yourself. Treat yourself to a cheeky Gelato Messina to share afterwards. Return to the soft sand first up tomorrow.
