Prior to the Fratelli’s team into French cuisine with Café Nice, there was the Sopra restaurants for crowd pleasing Italian fare where we patiently queued in Dank Street before dancing the streets with joy at Macleay Street for this Potts Point version (my local). Café Sopra has been such a great success and now features in four venues about the city. They are consistently full indicating the appeal of the menu and the winning formula of great food done consistently well.
Café Sopra offers a big, broad menu to satisfy almost any craving. The food here is quite simple but the produce is really good, much like the store (I buy my fruit from Fratelli Fresh exclusively for its freshness.)
The weekday lunch crowd is pretty chilled here in Potts Point – median age 50? – which is making me feel like a bright young thing – perfect.
My dining companion has ordered a Sopra favourite, the Crumbed Chicken Scallopine with Sopra Slaw. It’s a pretty safe bet if you’re a lover of schnitzel.

The salads can’t be underestimated and the perfectly Shaved Zucchini Salad with Baby Fennel, Olives, Mint and Reggio is gorgeous, in fact all of the salads from the Truss Tomatoes and Boccocinni through to my other favourite the Witlof, Pear, Wlanut & Gorgonzola are tough to beat.

I’m going with the Chicken Cacciatore with Soft Polenta today. It’s a hearty, home-y, comfort dish which is a satisfying and tasty fill.

There is no room for dessert today unfortunately but the Bannoffie Pie comes highly recommended by me (will upload a pic with my next visit).
I think it’s sometimes easy to take Café Sopra for granted because it is so good and reliable but it’s not until I have a clanger of a meal somewhere that I am reminded of how enjoyable and consistent a meal can be here in Potts Point (and Waterloo and the City and The Rocks).
