Din Tai Fung do some of the sweetest, neatest soup dumplings in the city however the overall menu at the restaurant in World Square is not as much of a favourite as Chef’s Gallery or New Shanghai.
That’s why it’s perfect that the Din Tai Fung team have opened a dumpling bar in the Westfield Shopping Centre so I can grab a sneaky fill amidst my city retail activity.
The Dumpling Bar outpost has most of what you know and love from the World Square including the busy little beavers in the window making the most symmetrically perfect and precise dumplings.

The Xiao Long Bao are the thinnest wafer of pastry wrapping a teeny meatball of pork and injected with beautiful, hot, soupy broth. I’m not sure what is the bigger question here – how do they get that broth in there or how do I eat these bad boys fresh without burning the roof of my mouth.

The Pork Buns are not necessarily like the ones you know from Yum Cha with their sweet, sticky, char siu pork inside. These Pork Buns contain a mince (similar to the soup dumplings) which are perfect with a hit of chilli and ginger to help it a longer.
My mandatory order from Din Tai Fong are the Spicy Pork & Shrimp Wonton. The chilli sauce that the wontons sit in are the perfect balance of sweet and spicy.

Though I’m a regular shopper in the city I’ve made very few visits to retaurants in Westfield (apart from Ippudo and Chat Thai) because Din Tai Fung fits the bill so perfectly.
